Microwaving popcorn in a bowl!?!

So the new thing floating around the web is making popcorn in a glass bowl with a plate on top, no oil needed.

Ok, I'm interested. After all, I do love homemade popcorn and it means less dishes for me to wash. I'm willing to give it a try.

Step 1) 1/4 cup popcorn kernels in a microwave safe bowl.

Step 2) Cover with microwave safe plate and cook on high for at least 3 minutes.

Result:
Nope. Didn't work. Even after an extra 30 seconds I still had tons of unpopped seeds. I think I'll go back to pan popping my kernels in a few tbsp of oil.

What Internet things have you tried that haven't worked out so well?

The Dressmaker, my current read.

I don't have much time to read, but I do love to read. My latest book is a good one. I"m only half way through but I already recommended it to my friend tonight and I thought I should share it all with you as well.

The book "The Dressmaker" by Kate Alcott

The book is centered around two main characters London-based designer Lady Lucille Duff Gordon and Tess, young girl who is hired to work as a maid for Lady Lucille but dreams of becoming a seamstress. Both women are board the Titanic and survive the sinking but in different boats. After the sinking Tess's fate as a seamstress is tied to Lady Lucille but her heart tugs her in a differnet direction.

Do you have a recommended summer read?

Glowing Rocks

I had this brilliant idea to make glowing rocks. Thought they would be cute out in the garden an we could look out the window each night and admire them.

Step 1) I bought some river rocks and glow in the desk paint from Michael's and a bit of newspaper and a paint brush at home and we were set.

Step 3) Paint the rocks (coat with acrylic spray if you are going to leave them outside.)

Result:

There were 2 very difficult parts to this craft. First, photographing this glowing rock was very problematic! Second, I learned that it takes more than one thick coat of pair to make these rocks glow. I would recommend letting your kids do a coat, then going ack and doing 2 or 3 more costs later on.

If you do this let me know how it turns out!

Story time at the library.

Sometimes the best things in life are free! Really.

Story time at the library is free and  educational too.

My town happens to have a pretty good summer reading program and a good children's book selection.  We try to go to many of the events as we can.

Do you go to the library during the summer? What other free events in your community so you participate in?
